New Church Perspective in Kent Cooper

Leading up to the celebration of New Church Day we will post two mixed media features offering perspectives on the Holy City described by John in the book of Revelation (Rev. 21). This descending city symbolizes the gradual coming of the New Church on earth (AR 879). New Church Day is celebrated on June 19th in keeping with Swedenborg's account that on this day, in 1770, the Lord sent His disciple throughout the spiritual world "to preach the Gospel, that the Lord God Jesus Christ is king, and His kingdom shall be for ever and ever" (TCR 791). -Editor

Kent's drawing of the Holy City beautifully illustrates how the letter of the Word "protects the spiritual sense, which lies hidden within, as the wall protects a city and its inhabitants" (AR 898). His drawing includes many details from the letter that can illustrate the spiritual sense within. Kent drew this picture for his and Lisa's wedding invitation in 1982.
