Many people worry about privacy. The most recent news story to touch on those worries has to do with our federal government gathering phone records. This has apparently been going on for many years, through several different administrations. I notice other waves of worry when Facebook makes changes, and there are more ways for us to see each other’s data. And we have to know by now that every time we do anything online, as well as on e-mail or the phone, there are multitudes of private businesses, charitable organizations, and political groups tracking our words and actions in order to decide who to market to, and how.
Do we panic and lament the “end of privacy”? Or is there maybe another way to look at it? Should efforts to protect privacy be enacted, or would it make more sense to concentrate on efforts to learn to live in a privacy-free world?
