The Lord Keeps Leading Me

Louise describes the ways she sees the Lord's guidance in her life and work in the field of behavioral health. Her work can be challenging and emotionally demanding and is not always successful. But still Louise can see the Lord shepherding her clients and herself along life's journey. -Editor.

Sometimes, as I hop in my car, I imagine that I am doing the work I do to help people and improve the world a bit. I think that the Lord smiles benignly on this thought. His plans are on a larger scale. Despite my bumbling, He is shepherding us all.

What do I do? I work in the field of Behavioral Health, mostly in homes. I see children with emotional and behavioral issues and/or developmental delays, and their families, on a regular basis. At a given point in time I have six to ten cases, each one unique. There are goals for each child, broad things like: Help Edgar Improve his communication skills, Teach Rosalina coping skills for anger management, and Increase Fred's compliance in the home. So I drive my car full of games, puzzles, crafts, and stories around two counties, and sit on the floor with my young friends. It is often delightful. As we play and talk I try to gently instill a few things: kindness, honesty, patience, self control, perseverance, sportsmanship, and occasionally a little knowledge....
